Jess has worked extensively in elite and professional sports settings throughout her career. She supported the World's best snowboarders and skiers over three Winter Olympic cycles (2010 - Vancouver, 2014 - Sochi, 2018 - Pyeong Chang) touring with Australian, New Zealand, and US national teams and individual athletes, and was Australia’s Park & Pipe Team Physio at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games. Jess has also worked and travelled with the Australian Sailing Team, held the role of Movement Specialist for the GWS Giants AFL Team, and has experience working with the ASP (now WSL) and WQS surfing tours in Hawaii.
Shifting gears from travelling with the professional sporting world to motherhood lead Jess to retrain in the area of Women's Health and co-found Optima Female Performance - through which she continues to consult to elite sporting teams (AFLW and Super Netball), athletes (winter sports), and their support networks on all areas of female athlete health and performance. Her clinical interests include the holistic management of persistent pelvic pain and endometriosis, managing pelvic floor and menstrual dysfunctions in female athletes alongside their often concurrent complex hip/spinal/pelvic/groin pain/injuries, and providing care and exercise guidance during pregnancy, the postnatal period, and throughout menopause. Jess is passionate about educating and empowering women and girls of all ages (and their support team) to better understand their own unique physiology for improved wellbeing throughout all stages of life.
Time out of the front lines of sports physiotherapy during the early years of motherhood also allowed Jess to write her first book 'POP - When sport brings us to our knees' sharing the journeys and insights of 13 elite/professional Australian athletes and their ACL injuries. POP became an instant bestseller and is available worldwide from all major booksellers, or from www.jesscunningham.com.au.
Herself a keen surfer, sailor, snowboarder, and skier, in her spare time Jess enjoys getting her own fix of salty and snowy adventures, as well as chasing after her energetic daughter, and twin boys.
